Kitchen Remodeling
Colorado Kitchen Remodeling and Design
At True North Construction Company, we remodel kitchens throughout Fremont, Custer, Teller, El Paso, and Pueblo counties. The kitchen is where people actually spend their time, and it is the room that most determines whether a house feels like it works.
Kitchen projects cover a wide range. On one end is a refresh that keeps the existing layout and updates cabinets, counters, and fixtures. On the other is a full gut that moves walls, relocates plumbing and electrical, and changes how the whole main floor functions. Both are worth doing. They are very different projects, and the difference in cost between them is substantial.
We start by talking about how you use the room rather than about finishes. How many people cook at once, where the groceries come in, where the trash goes, whether anyone eats at the counter. Those answers drive the layout, and layout is the part you cannot change later without tearing the room out again.
We are licensed and insured, and we pull permits for the electrical and plumbing work that requires them. Inspected work protects you at resale and protects your insurance coverage if something ever goes wrong.

Cabinetry and Storage
Stock, semi-custom, and fully custom cabinetry, plus the storage details that make a kitchen work day to day: deep drawers instead of base cabinets, pull-out pantry units, and corner solutions that do not swallow your cookware.
Countertops and Backsplash
Quartz, granite, butcher block, and solid surface, templated and installed to fit. We will walk you through durability, maintenance, and seam placement before you choose, because the material that photographs best is not always the one that lives best.
Layout Changes and Wall Removal
Opening a kitchen to the living area changes how the entire floor feels. We evaluate whether the wall is load bearing, engineer the beam if it is, and handle the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC that almost always live inside the wall you want gone.
Plumbing and Fixtures
Sinks, faucets, disposals, pot fillers, and the supply and drain work behind them. Moving a sink or adding an island with water means new drain lines and venting, which is one of the larger cost drivers in any kitchen project.
Lighting and Electrical
Layered lighting makes a bigger difference than almost any finish you can buy. We add recessed lighting, under-cabinet task lighting, and the dedicated circuits that modern appliances require, bringing older kitchens up to current code in the process.
Flooring and Finish Work
Tile, luxury vinyl plank, and hardwood installed over a properly prepared subfloor, plus trim, paint, and the transitions between rooms. Good finish carpentry is what separates a remodel that looks new from one that looks redone.
Kitchen Remodeling Questions
What to Expect Before, During, and After
A kitchen remodel is the most disruptive project most homeowners ever take on in an occupied house. Knowing what to expect ahead of time makes it considerably easier to live through.
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
A cosmetic update that keeps the existing layout typically runs three to five weeks. A full remodel with layout changes, relocated plumbing, and custom cabinetry usually runs eight to twelve weeks from demolition to punch list. Custom cabinet lead times are often the longest single item, and we order them early for that reason.
Can I stay in the house during the work?
Most families do. You will be without a kitchen for the majority of the project, so we recommend setting up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in the house with a microwave, a coffee maker, and a refrigerator before we start. We contain dust, protect pathways, and clean up at the end of each day.
Do I need a permit to remodel a kitchen?
If the project involves electrical work, plumbing changes, or structural modification, yes. A straight swap of cabinets and countertops with no changes behind the walls generally does not. We handle permits and inspections when they apply.
What drives the cost most?
In order: moving plumbing and electrical, removing or altering walls, and cabinetry. Finishes matter, but the choices that require opening walls and relocating systems are what separate a mid-range budget from a high one. If budget is the main constraint, keeping the existing layout is the single most effective decision you can make.
Is it worth moving the sink or the stove?
Sometimes. If the current layout genuinely does not work, moving them is money well spent. If you are moving them because a design you saw online had them somewhere else, it usually is not. We will give you an honest read on which situation you are in.
Will a kitchen remodel add value to my home?
Kitchens consistently return more than most interior projects, particularly in our market where a lot of the housing stock has original kitchens from the eighties and nineties. A well-executed mid-range remodel generally returns more proportionally than a high-end one.
