Bathroom Remodeling

Colorado Bathroom Remodeling and Shower Conversions

At True North Construction Company, we remodel bathrooms throughout Fremont, Custer, Teller, El Paso, and Pueblo counties. Bathrooms are small rooms with a lot of systems packed into them, which is why they reward doing the work properly and punish shortcuts faster than any other room in the house.

The part of a bathroom remodel that determines whether it lasts is the part you never see again after it is finished. Waterproofing behind the tile, a correctly sloped shower pan, a proper vapor barrier, and real ventilation are what keep water out of your framing. We have torn out enough five-year-old bathrooms with rotted studs to take this seriously.

We handle everything from a straightforward update of fixtures and tile to a full gut that changes the layout, converts a tub to a walk-in shower, or carves a new bathroom out of existing space.

We are licensed and insured, and we pull permits for plumbing, electrical, and structural work where your county requires them.

Full Bathroom Remodels

Complete renovations from demolition through finish, including layout changes where the current arrangement wastes space. Most older bathrooms in our area have room that can be recovered with a smarter plan.

Tub-to-Shower Conversions

Replacing a rarely used tub with a full walk-in or curbless shower is one of the highest-satisfaction changes we make. It gains usable space, it is far easier to get into safely, and it suits how most people actually bathe.

Tile and Waterproofing

Proper substrate, a continuous waterproofing membrane, correct slope to the drain, and tile set to last. This is the step that unscrupulous or inexperienced installers skip, and it is the reason bathrooms fail early.

Vanities and Storage

Stock and custom vanities, linen storage, recessed niches, and medicine cabinets. In a small bathroom, storage built into the wall cavity buys you floor space you cannot get any other way.

Plumbing and Fixtures

Toilets, faucets, shower valves, and the supply and drain work behind them. We also replace aging galvanized and polybutylene supply lines when we find them open, which is the cheapest time it will ever be done.

Powder Rooms and Basement Baths

Adding a half bath on the main floor or a full bath in a finished basement. Basement bathrooms require attention to drain height and may need an ejector pump, and we assess that before quoting rather than after.

Bathroom Remodeling Questions

Built to Keep Water Where It Belongs

Bathrooms are the project we most often get called in to fix after someone else did them. Here is what we look at and what we get asked most.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

A standard full bathroom typically runs three to five weeks. A primary suite bathroom with custom tile work, a larger shower, and layout changes runs longer. If it is your only bathroom, we plan the sequence carefully to minimize the days you are without it.

Why do bathrooms fail so quickly?

Almost always water, and almost always behind the tile. Tile and grout are not waterproof. If there is no proper membrane behind them, or if the shower pan does not slope correctly to the drain, water reaches the framing and the damage is invisible until it is severe. We build the waterproofing assembly as a system, not as an afterthought.

Should I convert my tub to a shower?

If you have more than one bathroom and nobody bathes small children, a walk-in shower is usually the better use of the space. We generally recommend keeping at least one tub somewhere in the house for resale. If this is your only bathroom, that is worth weighing.

Does a bathroom remodel require a permit?

Moving plumbing fixtures, altering electrical, and structural changes do. Replacing fixtures in their existing locations typically does not. Requirements vary between our counties and we will tell you which apply to your project.

Can you make the bathroom easier to use as we get older?

Yes, and the best time to do it is during a remodel you were already planning. Curbless entries, blocking in the walls for grab bars, comfort-height fixtures, and better lighting cost very little to include now and are expensive to add later. None of it has to look clinical.

What does a bathroom remodel cost?

A fixture-and-finish update in an existing layout sits at the low end. A full gut with a custom tile shower, relocated plumbing, and a larger footprint sits several times higher. We provide a written scope so you can see which items drive your number.
